It's rare I come across a painting of flamingoes in these parts, and ever rarer that I fall in love with one, but so it is with this one (and this stately pair of flamingoes feel to me to possess a strong kinship with the egrets and heron of New England!) With a nice painterliness to it, especially gestural portraying the feathers on their backs, plus a great swirl of water around the feet of the one at right, like a whirlpool.
Framed: 15 3/4" x 12 3/4". Painting: 11 3/4" x 9". Oil on artist board, 2nd quarter 20th c. I believe. Framed as found--a nice old white washed frame that I think suits it very well.
