I think this drawing of pretty, intense young Marthe has so much life in it--I can just feel her presence (and the tightness of her collar!) across the distance of a century plus. From the ears to the bow in her hair to the stitching across the front of her dress and the way the fabric falls below it, it's terrifically vivid and I think just terrific.
Late 19th or very early 20th century and drawn on the reverse of a postcard-sized Parisian abeublements (furniture) shop. Marthe is written at the bottom right corner and initialed MT at left. Fair condition--there is a crease near her mouth, stains here and there and general wear and aging, but personally these just make me like it more. Approx 3 1/2 x 5 1/2.
