Peaches and Grapes, Antique Folk Art Oil on Board Painting

Regular price $75.00

A nicely atmospheric old oil on board painting of a pair of dangling peaches and a bunch of grapes. The tall narrow shape of the board is somewhat unusual, and I must say the vertically oriented composition with strategically arranged hanging fruits makes me wonder whether this wasn't meant as a nod to a nude torso of a woman?! Maybe that's just me, or maybe it was subconscious--or maybe it was a very deliberate visual metaphor! Whatever the case, I can't look at this and not think it, which makes this painting feel loaded as well as lovely!

13 1/4” t c 6 1/2” w and in good condition, late 19th c. or so I would think, a bit lighter/brighter and more radiant than photos convey.
