James Fisher was an early American children's publisher who operated out of 71 Court Street in Boston between 1838 and 1860; this hand-colored wood engraving is described on the reverse side of the frame as c. 1850, though I think it might be just a bit earlier. Fairly close kin to the prints of B. Brammel of Philadelphia, which I'm always on the hunt for, and I thought, especially as we edge toward holiday season, surely some father with a darling daughter might want to gift this to her--or she to him! I like to read it not as him holding those grapes out of reach, but rather as if just getting ready to zoom them toward her like an airplane!
8 3/4" x 6 7/8" framed. Lovely 19th century walnut frame with original glass, with brass hanging loop. Good antique condition, with a few light scattered toning spots as one would expect and what looks likely to be a clean tear to the paper along left edge (even under magnification it lis a bit hard to distinguish from a pencil mark but I think a tear, perhaps mended from the back.)
