Pair of Old Folk Carved Hanging Ball in Cage Whimsies

Two hanging ball in cage whimsies, which I found separately, but on the same day, and thought nice as a pair, so am offering them that way. The red painted one is definitely older, 19th century I believe, while the one at right probably 1940s or so. The crusty painted surface on the first is excellent, and the second of an unusual  and nicely sculptural form. Always hard to know if these were once the ends of longer chains or just carved as found--often these were carved from scraps of wood whose lengths dictated their size.

 Red painted: 6 5/8" x 13/16" x 3/4"; unpainted 6" x 7/8" x 7/8". Both in good condition, with great surface to the painted one, which shows one very fine hairline at the top of carving, minor and stable.
