Our Dazzler! Antique Homemade Painted Platform, For a Prize Rooster, I Presume!

Regular price $165.00

The first thing I found on my recent trip to Lancaster Country PA, and one of my favorites. At first I imagined "Our Dazzler" as a fluffy little show dog or exotic cat, but the more I've thought about it, and considering the primitive nature of the platform, I'd be willing to bet this was the stand for presenting a prize rooster! I'd think made for and used at the country fair, in hopes of a first prize ribbon or trophy (I like to imagine a young man of about 15 or so taking great pride in presenting his rooster for show!)--but it's also occurs to me Our Dazzler could have been a fighting cock!? Whatever the case, a marvelous thing, in original bittersweet paint with stencil painted lettering and decoration. Late 19th c. I believe, with fat iron nails, chip carved detail around the top platform, and the wire mesh I presume useful for helping the rooster climb to the top to show off!

16 1/2" x 7 3/8" x 8 1/2" tall. Good condition, very sturdy and sound, great patina. A little fading to the paint and general wear as there should be. Fabulous.
