Another week, another whimsy, not because good old ones are easy to find, but because you always grab them fast when I do, and so I look hard for them. Some long and tall whimsies (and some chains, too) were carved from broom handles, as I'm pretty certain was the case here (this one precisely 24 inches in length )--which I really like the idea of, very much a make do sort of carving, the utilitarian mundane transformed, and of course a real whittler will whittle on whatever is around! And here I might wonder if this one was carved as a model of sorts in advance of a full scale walking stick!
