I'm not the best with Chrisitian iconography, but I believe this subject of this antique Mexican retablo is a young Jesus, with the cross and crown of thorns behind him foreshadowing his death, and the lily in his hand his resurrection. I really like the fact that he looks both like a baby and and old man, hovering between clouds above and below, and with the wear to the paint giving a sense of rain or tears streaming down. And the black of his gown against the baby blue is pretty great too.
19th century I believe. This is a relatively small one: 6 3/4" x 4 3/4". Good condition, with wear as evident but no major dings or dents.
