I an not entirely sure the purpose of this tool; I would guess it is an awl, used for making holes in leather or the like, but I'm not sure, especially because of its wooden cap, which fits over the end of the tool but not over its metal tip, and which could serve as a holder for something. Perhaps it is specifically a sewing related tool? Regardless, its a great little object that could be put to use for a variety of tasks, and it feels just fabulous in the hand!
