Yup'ik Northwest Coast Native American Lidded Coiled Grass Basket

Regular price $40.00

This is a very lovely vintage Yup'ik (Northern Alaska Native American) coiled and lidded basket, mid-20th century I believe. Handwoven of beach grass, with dyed red and green grass used for the snake-like decoration, repeated four times around the perimeter of the basket. There is a nice warm patina to the grass, and I especially love the topple, a signature of Yup'ik baskets. A wonderful addition to a collection of baskets or simply a beautiful thing in which to store a few treasures.

5ʺw × 5ʺd×5 1/2ʺh. Very good condition, with very minor slumping, one tiny broken stitch at the edge of the lid, and a few spots where the grass has darkened a bit - all as documented.
