I've become really enamored of the way the gold paint on old tramp art pieces like this softens and mellows with age--in this case I think at least a hundred years time has resulted in mellow gold perfection. And it's a great frame to begin with--five stacked, finely chipped carved layers on most of it, and several more on top of that at the corners. And on the backside, some text visible from the cigar box wood from which it was made.
The hanger on reverse corresponds to horizontal hanging, but obviously a different hanger could be added, along with glass. Overall: 17 1/2" wide x 16 1/4" x 1 1/4" deep. Holds: 11 1/8" x 8 3/4". Sight area: 10 7/8" x 8 1/2".
Overall very good antique condition. Minor paint loss. No loss at all to layers that I can see. Tiny dings here and there, a few small nicks to corners visible on the backside, minor, and one minor chip/split at upper left corner, as pictured, which I don't think detracts.
