Early 19th Century Portrait Miniature of a Wonderfully Masculine Looking Young Woman with Red Shawl on Bone

Regular price $200.00

Pure delight for me finding this one. I understand that some people might judge a portrait miniature by the beauty of its subject, but for me it is all about character, and uncommonness too, so of course I absolutely love a portrait looking (to me at least) like the head of Napoleon on a young woman's body! I presume French, finely painted, on bone, with a terrific boldness too--as if she were confronting the viewer, a look of defiance on her face. Love.

5" x 4 1/8" framed. Sight 2 1/4" x 1 7/8". All over craquelure to the lacquered surface of the (original) frame; portrait itself in very good condition and appears as if easily removed from frame (a few of the brass spikes around the back of the miniature are, pulled outward, what is keeping it secured in the frame.) Holding to light, one can see better the painted pattern decoration on her sleeves and chest--as documented.
