Taped to the front of this drawing when I found it, and also written on the back of the frame, is a note that George Washington commissioned Capt. Nicholas Broughton of Marblehead (near where I found this) and the schooner Hannah into the service of the United Colonies on Sept 2, 1775. I'm not sure where our little man in tricorn hat at lower right is meant to be Washington, or Broughton, or someone else, but I sure love him, and the two little houses, and the trees that appear to perch atop the post and house, and of course the grand Hannah and her dingy, too.
Sold in the frame I found it in, which I think suits it just fine. Framed: 12” x 9 1/2”. Visible image: 8 1/4” x 5 7/8”. Good condition, with hanging loop on the back. Late 19th/very early 20th century I believe.
