C. 1940s-50s Oil on Canvas Painting of Young Woman in Yellow Mending

Regular price $125.00

Not really my usual style, but when I came across this painting in Maine yesterday it would not let me go. To me, it has a bit of a WPA feeling about it, and this lovely, rosy cheeked young woman seems to me quietly heroic, looking as if perhaps a few months pregnant and  mending (I assume) what looks more like a sheet or blanket than a shirt, and so feels somehow more hopeful and future oriented than a mundane daily chore. (And/or perhaps the wear to the sheet has something to do with the child she looks to be carrying!) Whatever the case, she keeps me looking at her and wondering about her and what it is she is thinking about that brings a blush to her cheeks and a subtle smile to her lips. Signed SG at lower right.

Framed as found, in what looks to me like a c. 1950s white and gold painted wooden frame. Oil on stretched canvas. Framed: 19 1/4" x 15 1/8". Painting: 16 1/4" x 12 1/4". Very good condition.
