I love a Merganser, with its long bill and dark green crest, and really love this painting, folky but proud, and with the terrific flat teal blue ground making this drake feel pretty iconic. A quick search found the Hugh F. Jobe who painted it, a WWII veteran of Haverhill, MA, 1923-2002. Though I have found no other examples of the work, the fact that he painted the back of this one to say "oil paint no frame" makes me think he surely made and sold more than just this painting, perhaps straight from the his front lawn.
