Matte Green Arts and Crafts Bowl, Presumed Zanesville

Regular price $58.00

I think there is no better glaze in the world than this rich matte green, iconic to arts and crafts pottery of the earlyish 20th century, including Greuby and Teco.  This little jewel of a bowl, with really lovely scalloped design, was I believe made by the Zanesville Stoneware Company, c. 1920s, though I am not 100% certain as I have not found its exact match. It is stamped "47" on its unglazed bottom.

There are no chips or cracks, but this bowl does have irregularities, which is part of what I think makes it feel so special. See photos -- there are a couple of whitish/grayish areas to the glaze on the interior of the bowl as well as what seems to be a very tiny shard of stoneware stuck to the  surface. The exterior shows some variegations in the glaze and light crazing. To my eye, none of these detract. It measures 5 1/4" in diameter and 2 1/4" tall; 3 1/4" across at base.
