Among my very favorite figurative carvings I've had, I'd guess this beauty dates to the 1930s-40s or so, and is many times more great in person. To me she seems wonderfully self-possessed and also as if she might be holding a secret, which she might or might not be on the cusp of revealing; just the sort of carving one might carry on an ongoing conversation with! Surprisingly, she appears not to be signed, unless there is a name carved into the underside and hidden by the perimeter of green felt.
7 1/4" t x 6 3/8" w x 3 3/8", excellent condition, with a very substantial presence. I believe the wood is either mahogony or walnut.
