Lovely Collection of Three Early 19th C. Carved Bone Teetotem (Game Spinners)

Regular price $195.00

I have always wanted one of these--so what a thing to find three together! They are early 19th century bone "teetotems"--used for games, including "put and take," essentially like dice. Two of these are eight sided, the white one six sided, and all of them spin brilliantly, like tops. (Pure pleasure setting them spinning, and all sorts of games one might play with them.) Possibly sailor made, possibly prisoner of war, it is hard to know for sure, but definitely early 1800s and each one its own special and beautiful thing.

White (6 sided): 1" d x 1 7/8" l. Lighter red (8 sided): 1 1/4" d x 2" l. Darker red: 1 1/4" d x 1 1/4" l. All in good condition and spinning perfectly. There is one hairline crack in the bone at the surface between the 4 and 5 on the white one and one between the 1 and 2 on the lighter colored red one, both minor.
