I find this an exceptionally beautiful real photo postcard, with the unusual toning to ground beyond the frame of the portrait seeming like a soft rake of afternoon light that has come through the window to illuminate the book our young man holds in his hands..a bit like the illumination of knowledge itself! Wonderfully gentle and poetic, and with some peeling to the paper covering the windowsill making it feel a bit like a stolen moment of quiet in a transient space. C. 1910s and German I believe.
5 1/2" x 3 1/2" and in very good condition, with very light edge wear.
