I can never get enough of these apples--great things in all of their variety, each different from the next due to when it was made, size, how it was painted, and the life it has led. This one earlyish 20th century I believe, and in lovely condition, with a nice combination of red and yellow paint with lots of striation. And inside, right alongside the stamped "Japan," someone wrote "England" and "France" long ago, I'd like to think documenting its (or their) travels! Turned apples of this sort were made in Japan beginning in the late 19th century for Western export.
3 3/8" d x 3 1/4" t. Very good condition, with no splits or notable paint loss, original wooden stem, lovely.
