Lovely 19th C. Crossing Rose and Tulip Watercolor

Regular price $30.00

I am finding it hard to resist antique floral watercolors these days--perhaps in part for knowing that the loveliness of spring blooms exploding everywhere at the moment will soon be gone, and indeed these paintings always feel a bit like momento mori. And the white of the rose and rose buds on this one are so pale as to almost disappear against the cream colored paper, making it feel perhaps all the more so. But the crossing of the two blooms and intertwining of their delicately painted stems and leaves also makes it feel like a love token--a happy wedding of two two different sorts!

6 3/4" x 6 1/8", watercolor on wove, and in good condition, with a little age toning and smudging on the paper around the edges. Signed in pencil on the back: painted by M. Hensgey or similar.
