Little Lamb (or Maybe a Dog?), Sweet Old Carved Animal

I take this as a little lamb, but I seem not to very good at identifying animals! A sweet old carved creature whatever the case, I might guess German, but don't know for sure. Late 19th/early 20th c. I would guess.

3" l measured on the square x 2 3/4" t x 1 1/8" w. Good condition, great patina.
