Maybe the little girl in this super folky reverse glass painting is meant to be Little Bo Peep, or maybe Mary with her little lamb, but as opposed to those lost girls, this one has a mother at her side (and with a cross around her neck), so who knows? In any event, pretty fabulous I think, from their faces and ringlets to this great blue starry sky. I'm not entirely sure of its age or origins--it seems perhaps Eastern European to me, and I would think late 19th or early 20th century, but I'm not entirely sure.
I first photographed this in the old frame I found it in, but decided to remove it to take a closer look, so the first bunch of photos, where the blue is lighter, are how it looks out a frame, with some light showing through. The frame shows a little damage to the bottom left corner but is structurally sound; I'm happy to send it, or not. The painting and glass itself is in great shape, and I like it nearly as much from the back as the front! Painting measures 13 9/16" x 11 1/8"; framed size is 14 7/8" x 12 1/2". The frame is wired on the back for hanging.
