I found this gorgeous ribbon at Brimfield, digging through a pile--it was in a tight plastic sleeve, where its length had been wrapped several times around a piece of card long ago. French, c. early 19th century I believe; there are examples of 18th century French tapestries with very similar floral compositions and patterns so perhaps even earlier. Finely woven of silk and just beautiful.
29" long x 2 5/8" wide. A couple of areas of wear/some threadbareness as detailed but overall very good antique condition, color appearing largely unfaded, very rich and stain free.
