Laura's Rose, 19th C. Naive Graphite Drawing on Lined Paper

Regular price $20.00

The Laura who signed this above the lower border does have a last name, but she wrote it with so many flourishes I find it very hard to read! She clearly liked her flourishes, seemingly adding them wherever she could, but I think she got the rose really right, with a nice wildness to the leaves furling in every direction, and a feeling of this rose as a very living thing, as if  swarming with bumblebees!

8 1/8” x 5”, overall good condition, with some toning/spotting as evident. Embossed "Imperial" crown at upper left.
