I found both this one, along with the crock painting I just listed, at one of my very favorite spots in New Hampshire--a treasure trove of interesting and unusual things that reflect the eyes of a family of artists. I am not sure if they were done by the same person, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were. I love the intensity of the chiseled sort of face on this guy, his ginger hair set off by purple ground, and then what seems like a vast torso tapering to unfinished waist and hands, which to my eye have the effect of lending him an interesting sense of femininity. One could certainly trim the painting if desired, but I quite like its in process-ness.
