There are times when I am simply incapable of not buying something, and rationalize that even if no one else falls in love with it, I'll be happy just to keep it for myself. Like this gloriously hand-painted desk, signed on the back--"To my son, Da Mumma" -- and dated 1940. It's large to be a lap desk, but would be a handy thing to stash all of one's stuff inside in order to move from table to table, wherever one want might to work, or draw, or paint, and the spirit of it is definitely supportive of creative thinking and doing. It's definitely seen some use, but is super study and with virtually no paint loss, and the paint has aged beautifully, with fine alligatoring all over. Plus a bright baby blue interior!
22" wide x 16 3/8" deep x 9 1/4" tall. There is a thin hairline crack in the wood of the red-painted strip on top to which the hinges are attached, pretty minor and without structural impact. Please note: due to its size, automatically calculated shipping on this at checkout will be lower than actual, so I will need to invoice for the difference. To ship to New York/New England, actual shipping will be $30; to ship to the Midwest $60, and to ship to the west coast or south, $70.
