A few months ago I found a wonderful Japanese cat hand-puppet (which immediately sold) that was clearly made by the same maker as this terrific clown... and I will continue to hunt for more of the like as I am completely in love with them! With a hand-painted papier-mache head and a body sewn of two complementary brown and white patterned fabrics, I find it just completely charming. I believe it dates to the 1940s or so, and is ready to be used for a puppet show; there is room for a finger or two inside the head while the others fill its armholes. Super sweet!
8" tall x 6 1/2" wide (with dress spread flat); head measures approx 1 7/8" wide x 3" tall. Great vintage condition, with minor wear to the paint on its face.
