Installation, Illumination: Portrait of a Man in Constructed Environment with Incredibly Lit Face, Early 1900s RPPC

Regular price $80.00

A couple of really special real photo postcards this week I think, and this very much one of those. The light on his face! And the very artfully arranged leafy branches mounted to the wall behind, with a few of them, as result of how he is positioned, seeming to spring directly from his hat. And this curious tree/log/shelf upon which he rests his forearm, and maybe there is a twig bench connected to it too, in the darker foreground. Clearly a very carefully constructed environment, and photograph, and one might imagine its subject was also its auteur. (Feels a bit Hitchcockian , and Lynchian, too.) Perhaps the stage set for a Shakespearean adaptation, but of course I like to imagine an experimental early installation-based performance art piece!  Wonderful.

 5 7/16" x 3 3/8", very good condition, first decade 20th century.
