I’m always attracted to pipe-related images and objects that feel Magritte-ian, and think Magritte’s Treachery of Images (Ceci n’est pas une pipe) was about as perfect a means of addressing the nature of representation as there’s been! Plus, pipes are just great looking things! I think this old mold is quite iconic feeling in it simplicity of form, all the more so for being made of what I believe is solid steel--heavy! It appears it was once coated in dark red paint—still on the reverse, but only a few traces on the front. Really an excellent object.
5 7/8" x 2 7/8" x 7/8" d; weighs 1 lb 10 oz. Iconic Feeling Old Steel Pipe Shaped Relief Mold With holes at either side of the steel plate for hanging. Very good condition with general surface wear, all to the good, and traces of old red paint near where the pipe form meets the plate.
