Hunting Dogs, Mare and Foal, Double Sided Later 19th Century Ink Sketches

Regular price $28.00

This came from a later 19th century sketchbook found in Pennsylvania last summer, which included a few wonderful folk art watercolor drawings of a very different nature that I pulled out and quickly sold; going through some piles this week I came back across this one though and find it--both sides of it--too charming to throw into the summer flea market pile. These hunting dogs have a lot of life in them I think, and I especially love the face on the lower one, tongue hanging out! Nice handling of the leaves on the trees, too,  a combination of ink and graphite. And the faces on the horses on reverse equally good, the foal looking very very wide eyed at the world, and also as though it has three front legs! Both drawings done with a fine tip, in ink that appears now mid-way between black and sepia.

11" x 8 5/8". Good antique condition. some toning and staining to paper as evident, and an old crease to upper corner of paper.  Better in hand.
