Huge Antique Ledger Page with 1940s Pattern Drawings and Arithmetic

Regular price $40.00

This page I know came out of an oversized ledger dated 1895 which was originally used for maintaining the register of the National Amalgamated Society of Coopers--a trade union representing coopers in the United Kingdom and Ireland. In the 1940s, however, Douglas and Nancy Webster, two school children, took hold of it and used it for their own purposes! I just love the colorful pattern drawings on this page, looking rather like quilt squares, and seeming just the right complement to the grid of simple division math problems below. And, on the reverse, more math plus a stem of marigolds and a little girl, very diligently noted as having been copied from "the reader." And, it looks to me, like a question re. how best to phrase a "do you like me?" note to a potential valentine!

15 13/16" x 12 3/4" and in very good condition.
