I haven’t been able to determine the book this plate came from (p. 646) but from the looks of the paper and printing I would guess late 19/early 20th century, and surely a medical book. I just love the succinct graphic elegance of the diagrams, together showing the expansion (of both number of teeth and width of mouths to contain them!) over the first 25 years of one’s life. To my sensibilities really quite perfectly done, and also evocative of the correspondingly expanding appetites accompanying the accumulation of teeth! Clearly printed using an inked plate as the ink skipped a few spots.
9 13/16" x 7" and in very good condition.
