I discovered the existence of Herz Des Menschen (The Heart of Man) a few months ago and its engravings completely blew me away. Now another copy, this one 1848, with the added character of a series of cellophane tape mends, long sense yellowed. I personally love the effect, heightening the drama of its contents all the more.
Photos give a good sense, showing all of the engravings, through not all pages of text. By Johannes Gossner (1773–1858). Printed in German, fraktur lettering, printed by G.S. Peters in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, 1848. Peters was famous for his Pennsylvania Dutch and German-language printing in Central Pennsylvania.
6 5/8" x 4 3/16". 70 pages, 10 plates. Very well worn as shown but binding holding, stable, and not fragile to handle.
