I love a hand-drawn map or diagram, and even more so an old photo of one (one media translated into another), and here the hands (which look like working hands for sure) really make it as an image, grounding the survey in a specific moment while suspending it forever. The diagram is a Geologic Section of the Cleveland Quadrangle in Tennessee--a topographic map area in Southeastern Tennessee which encompasses the city of Cleveland and surrounding terrain in Bradley County. I believe both the drawing and the photo date to the 1920s or so, correspondent with an intensive period of field mapping in the state as part of the Tennessee Geological Survey. The section in signed at lower right.
5 3/4" x 3 1/2". Very good condition.
