A pretty great found face on the back of an old Peruvian painted clay ocarina, looking quite a bit like Munch's scream! The features are in fact utilitarian ones, with the nose holes for stringing the pipe to wear it around one's neck, and the eyes and mouth for moving and stopping air while playing. Definitely animated by the wear to the surface. exposing the clay beneath the paint, especially on the nose. I might hang straight on the wall from a couple of strategically placed nails corresponding to the holes on the intended front--though it was made to be played!
4" l x 2 3/4" w, with plenty of surface wear to the painted side. Works and sounds great!
