Love at first sight with this lounging lion, whose face and posture and attitude strike me as just right. I have done some searching but found no match of him out there; I think he is likely Japanese based on the exposed bisque underside, but there is no mark anywhere that I see. He's quite well done, with fine incised texture for the fur, and nicely variegated/graduated color, from the red of the mane and tail to the brown of the body. A bit of a mystery, at least to me, but fabulous.
4 1/2" l x 3" d x 2 3/4" and in very good condition. No chips or cracks. I'd guess 1920s-40s but I think quite possibly older than that; I'm just not certain.
