I really like the ambiguity of the one and ink drawing at the top of this antique postcard--Are these two girls or is the top figure a boy? Are they young friends or young lovers? I'd guess based on the text of the postcard that the girl in bed is infirm, a stand-in for the recipient of the card, but perhaps also the Bobbie and Mim/Miss S... referred to in the last sentence? I suppose we'll never know, but I really love speculating about it, and find the drawing really wonderful. Maybe it's me, but these old hand-drawn postcards have become my favorite thing of late, simultaneously great little artworks, historic time capsules, and intriguing mysteries communicating across generations!
Approx 3 1/2" x 5 1/2". Very good overall condition, darker in the corners and around edges from where it must have been mounted in an album or framed. A very tiny bump to the upper left corner.
