There is a hand-drawn French flag on the side of the old wooden slide top box housing these old dominoes--in addition to the name Mr. Geo Barnes, written large in pencil across the lid--so I have to think they are French, and would guess late 19th c or so. Their super painterly surfaces appear to be thickly applied enamel, with inset dots, and brass spinners at the center, which work great for setting them spinning. I think they're just gorgeous, unusual, and wonderfully irregular, giving antique bone dominoes a run for their money!
Box measures 6 1/2" l x 2 1/4" w x 2" t. Dominoes measure 1 5/8" l x 13/16" w x 5/16" thick. All in very good condition, beautifully aged. The slide top on the box slides open smoothly and stays firmly closed. Complete double six set of 28 dominoes.
