Though unsigned, if I had to guess, I might think this great wooden folk art chicken was the work of well-known Georgia folk artist RA Miller (1912 –2006)--the silhouette and use of line is very similar, though perhaps it is a little too refined. At any rate, a pretty terrific chicken--rooster?--I think, with wonderfully graphic, black painted details and the perfect orange painted base. Super.
8 11/16" tall c 5 7/8" wide x 2 1/4" deep (at base); bird itself is 3/4" thick. Very good condition, with scuffs and general wear, all to the good. The bird, which is screwed into the base, can be rotated around as desired.
