I imagine this one was painted by a child in school long ago learning about Africa in geography class and imagining elephants roaming across a landscape dotted with (orange!) palm trees. Watercolor on laid paper, with a sort of thin varnish painted over the watercolor, lending it a bit of a glossy surface (just the watercolored areas, not the rest of the paper) and deepening the color to very good effect I think. Later 19th century I believe, in a terrific gilded frame, which is probably at least a few decades older than the painting itself but makes for a charming package.
6" x 5 1/6" framed. All in good condition, wired on the back for hanging.
