Whoever made this drawing, or whoever accepted it in lieu of 5 cents, must have thought pretty highly of it, as 5 cents would have gone quite a ways then. Or, perhaps the smoking figure at top represents the owner of a farm, owing 5 cents to the hoeing laborer below, reminding one a bit of Venmo transaction emojis now! Whatever the case, its endurance over a century and a quarter or so certainly attest to its value to at least a few someones, and of course I am always thrilled to find little drawings like this, conveying so much with so little and so full of life in the present!
4 9/16” x 4 3/16” and in good condition, a little corner wear with scattered stains/toning that is all to the good in my opinion. Done on the reverse of a printed card.
