Such a striking portrait on this lacquered papier-mache snuff box lid, early-mid 19th c.--of a gentlewoman I think, in broad brimmed green hat, but appealingly androgynous looking. And what a beautiful framing of it, with silver leaves around the perimeter (akin to what one sees on framed painted miniature portraits of the time) that amplify the borders on the lid itself, and with brass hanging loop at top. It appears the portrait is a hand-colored print, with hand-painted gold and white details on the bodice and neck ruffle, over top. In near perfect condition, super crisp and quite stunning.
3 5/8" in diameter and in excellent antique condition.
