Fruits in Landscape, Very Naive and Very Wonderful 19th Century Still Life Painting on Wood Panel with Plums and Gooseberries

Regular price $175.00

Photos don't do justice to this wonderfully naive and quite visceral small still life painting on wood, 19th century American I believe. Strong color, rich surface, emphatic presence, super charming, the sort of small painting I am forever hoping to find. I take the purple fruits for plums, and the smaller yellow ones for gooseberries, and always love a still life of painted in the landscape, as if the fruits just plucked and painted with a sense of urgency. And with a view to the sky behind, they feel like protagonists in their own small drama. Great

8" x 6 3/16", Very good condition. Looks like probably originally  framed, with some paint loss just around the far perimeter, corresponding to a straight edge.
