This is a lovely hand-thrown bowl by studio potter Frank C. Mann of Vermont, 1950s-60s. Mann's striking designs, typically featuring bold but organic shapes against a white slipped stoneware body, as seen here, are highly collected and fairly rare to find. I love the alternating brown and black against the bright white, the super smooth surface, and the shape and size of the bowl, which would be great for serving grains or other side dishes (or halloween candy!), or just sitting on the shelf or counter. It would also make a great small planter. A quintessential Frank Mann piece.
It measures 5 1/2" across at lip and 3 3/4" tall; 2 1/2" across at base. It is in excellent vintage condition, with a few tiny brown spots on one side that appear original to its making. It is signed (incised) Mann on the bottom and marked 7c in ink.
