Fossil Face!

I found this one in one of my favorite shops in New Hampshire—a place that feels like a cabinet of curiosities, modern, antique, and ancient, including lots of specimens decommissioned from old science departments and the like. I don’t know much about fossil identification, but this rock certainly looks to me as if capturing the impressions of a whole lot of small shells--what immediately struck me, though, is that it looks very much like a face in profile, facing right—complete with what look like eyelashes fluttering to either side of the eye. Pointy nose and pointy chin, too. Things like this just make me happy.
