For the Good Husband, 19th C. Papier Mache Shoe Snuff Box

One sees a fair number of antique lacquered papier mache snuff boxes, including a shoe shaped one from time to time, but this is the first I’ve seen with text on the lid, in this gold letters reading “ For the Good Husband.”  And so one imagines a gift from a wife to her spouse long ago--I might imagine, being pocket sized, given to him as he set out on a trip, perhaps to remind him of the good husband he should be!

3 1/8” x 7/8” w x 1 1/4” t and in good condition. The text and gold frame around it is a bit light in spots, but totally readable. Shoe is in very good condition, with some wear to the sole, as there should be, indicating it did indeed travel and see use!
