1920s Folk Art Ship in a Bottle Whimsy with Village, Signed B. Nielson

Regular price $120.00

I'll never wrap my head around how one could possibly make a ship in a bottle like this--they always seem like miracles to me! This perfectly preserved, beautifully executed large one features a four mast ship with tiny American flag flying at the stern end, and a village of tiny carved and painted wooden houses, church, and lighthouse in the background. The Illinois Glass Company bottle dates I believe specifically to 1924, with the use of the "I" mark ended in 1929.) It was signed by a B Nielson, visible on the backside of what I think is ceiling wax used for the hills in which the village sits; how even did they get the signature in there??? A very nice example.

10 3/4" l x 3 1/4" in diameter and in excellent condition. The metal cap of the bottle will screw off but the foil covered cork stopped is held tightly in place. No stand but it sits very happily and stably (does not roll of wobble) without one.
