Two truly charming characters, made really special by their hand-drawn features and wonderfully articulated hands! The faces remind me of the work of Howard Finster--I think it's the noses turning into eye brows, specifically--and especially that of this red-headed man, who looks to me super warm and kindly. But as the woman is gifted with moveable arms--attached by tiny nails at her shoulders and allowing her to throw them up in the air--perhaps he is at times exasperating too!
He has faces painted on both side while the back of her head is roundly carved. His hands were cutout separately and are jointed in (see detail photos; pretty nicely done!) Both stand sturdy on their bases. Unsigned. He is 10" t x 4 1/2" w x 1 3/8" d. She is 7" t x 3 1/2" w x 1 1/4" d. Some aging and natural darkening to the wood including a dark spot on his shoulder on one side but overall very good condition and really terrific! Seems like they should stick together so sold as a pair.
