Never ever will I resist small woolen needleworks like this with these sorts of fluffed borders, these two I believe likely the work of a schoolgirl in the second half of the 19th century. Found pinned directly to the wall, which is just what I would do with them. So joyful, and electric feeling, and with the flame stitch one especially feeling to me perfectly poised to have a conversation with an abstract painting, modern or post-modern or painted tomorrow. Wool on homespun linen; i am really not sure if there was ever more fluff to the borders or not, but I find these all the more charming for the staccato of the fluff!!l
Flame stitch: Linen 4 1/2" x 4 1/2"; 5" with puff border. Cornucopia: 4 1/8" square, 4 3/4" with border. Good condition, not at all fragile, minor stitch losses here and there and partial borders as evident. Charming.
